Brunton, the leading manufacturer of camping equipment for today’s outdoor adventure, is rebranding itself with a new marketing campaign to include new advertising and creative, a new product line, website redesign, and an expanded social media initiative.

“We’re really sharpening our focus to serve the modern camper. Clunky gear, station wagons and roughing it are things of the past,” said Jason Kintzler, Brunton Brand Manager, “These days, people have a hard enough time getting away from work and their busy lifestyles to get outside. We want to make it as comfortable and fun as possible for them.”

New products include the BrewFire™, the first portable, dual-fuel coffee maker; several new camping stoves, including the Profile™ Duo burner/grill combo stove, and the Lamplight™ 360, which incorporates brand new 360 degree LED technology and patent pending variable battery technology.

Brunton enlisted the creative forces of ad agency Cultivator to depict the future of camping in its new print advertising campaign. Cultivator is working with renowned artist, futurist, illustrator and conceptual designer, Syd Mead, who is best known for his contribution to the science fiction films Blade Runner, Aliens, and TRON. Brunton’s new creative, featuring the work of Mead, will run in Outside, Men’s Journal, National Geographic Adventure and Backpacker magazine. Brunton charts course from new HQ

Optics maker Brunton has expanded its new manufacturing facility in Riverton, Wyoming. Brunton’s former factory was a jigsaw puzzle of multiple wood-frame buildings and a warehouse of shipping-container storage bins. But the new state-of-the-art factory, which opened just a mile up the hill, changes all that.

The new entrance sports a 40-foot brass-in-concrete compass marking directions to such Wyoming landmarks as Yellowstone Park, the steps of the state capitol and the 50-yard line at the University of Wyoming’s football field. Brunton makes all its directional products and much of its accessories and camping gear in this 40,000-square-foot facility.

“There is a strong sense of pride in our manufacturing,” said company spokesperson Jason Kintzler. “Our employees are highly skilled and stay with us year after year. And we just can’t imagine a Boy Scout using a compass that’s made in China.”

Production facilities weren’t the only improvements at Brunton. New offices with the goal of fostering a creative-driven, product-oriented culture have been key to continued growth.

“We make every effort not to e-mail each other,” Kintzler said. “Engineers and marketing staff move from cube to cube exchanging ideas. If we need an area to develop a product, we just create one.”

Other innovative business practices at Brunton include Labrador retrievers in the aisles and lunches at the gun range to test optics. The Brunton staff takes their hobbies and work to heart. On the back of almost all of their packaging you’ll see this notice: “No suits or ties were worn in the making of this product.”

Brunton Field & Stream's "Best Of The Best"

   

For the first time, Brunton has earned Field & Stream's "Best of the Best" award for optics. The 7.5X43 Epoch Binocular, which was re-introduced this past year, received the award for 2007, making it the best high-end binocular available according to Field & Stream Magazine (circ. 1.7 million).
Here's what they said:
"Choosing the best top-priced binocular was no easy task. Three ranked together, and tester opinions kept shifting. Ultimately, the Epoch 7.5X43mm got the nod. First the Flaw: The non-diopter eyecup not only screws out but off, and it should not. Beyond that there is little to complain about. Resolution is exquisite. For a binocular with 43mm objective lenses, the size and weight are excellent. The 7.5X43mm configuration offers an ample exit pupil and is great in low light. all testers liked the feel of the locking diopter adjustment ring and the gray armoring, which is soft enough for a good grip. The Epoch has been honored by Outside Magazine with two separate "Gear of the Year" awards, as well as Men's Journal and others, but this is the first major circulation hunting title to give the ultimate binocular the nod.

Gannett Stove 2007 Editors' Choice

For the second consecutive year, Brunton has brought home Camping Life Magazine's Editor's Choice Award for the best new camp stove. Here's what they said:

Brunton Olymipian Shoots To Title

Foul weather hits U.S. nationals in Maine
FORT KENT, Maine - Conditions went from bad to worse at the North American and U.S. National Biathlon Championships on Saturday as a Nor'easter worked its way up the Maine coast starting late Friday night, dumping more than a foot of snow and sleet on the 10th Mountain Ski Lodge.
Not that it mattered to Lanny Barnes, who for the second day of competition in a row found herself on top of the podium after finishing first in the women's 7.5-kilometer sprint in both the North American and U.S. National Championships.
Lanny Barnes skied the course with a time of 32:40.2 with one miss shooting in the standing position.
Tracy Barnes finished fourth overall for the day, but her ski time of 34:28.6 with two penalties in the prone position was good enough for the third place spot on the podium for the U.S. National Championships.
The two Barnes' sisters are former Durango residents. They are the daughters of Deb and Thad Barnes.
Inclement weather is nothing new for the Barnes who spent last year in Europe on the World Cup circuit as members of the U.S. Biathlon Team.
At one point, the unseasonably warm winter made it impossible to even make snow for a race in Germany.
Instead, the host country was forced to ship in truckloads of ice used to pack fish and line the course with it.
On Thursday, competition in Fort Kent took place in the rain.
The forecast for the final day of competition with the pursuit race is for snow showers and temperatures in the 30s.\
"We haven't skied in temperatures below freezing yet this year," Tracy Barnes said following Thursday's race.
Fifty-two biathletes from around the U.S. and Canada are participating in the championships this weekend.
